I'm sure that most of us have had days, if not longer periods of time, where we have put ourselves down, let insecurity rule our thoughts, and ultimately lowered our sense of worth and value. These days will come and go for some of us, and for others these issues are such a constant that it has become a lifestyle. Either way, we all must realize that when we talk ourselves down and falsify our worth: we are also lessening the Lord's value.
God designed each of us with a specific plan and purpose in mind. He crafted each of us with unique giftings and callings. He molded each of us in His image. He looks upon us the way a loving father looks upon his newborn child, with pride and adoration. When we scorn and mutilate the value of ourselves, His creation, we are scorning the value of the Creator. We are calling Him a failure, and even worse than that, we are hurting Him. When we decide the value of ourselves and the value of the Lord it's as if we are trying to spend a $100 dollar bill as a simple dollar bill because we don't believe it is capable of having the value it says it does. We aren't allowing it's true value and worth to shine through or allowing it to do all it has the power of doing for us.
Luke 12:6-7 says this about our worth, "Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? And not one of them is forgotten before God. Why, even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not; you are of more value than many sparrows." Know your value. Knowing your worth will equip you with the tools needed to speak into other people's lives. Knowing your value will equip you to hear God's voice; to form a relationship with the Crafter of your mind, body, and spirit.
There was a time in my life when I had so little value for my life that I wished I had never been born at all. I didn't see the point of my existence. I saw myself as only taking up space and wasting air. Then, the Lord came to me in a dream weeping about the way I viewed myself. That's when it hit me that I wasn't just mocking my own value, I was mocking the Lord's. I was spitting on His creation and letting the enemy win. As soon as I decided to fight to know the value of my Savior, I was able to learn my own value. It is still a daily battle with myself to remember my worth and all that the Lord has intended for me, but with God on my side there is always victory.
The enemy rejoices when we lessen our value because he is terrified of what we'll be capable of the day that we realize our worth. When the veil is lifted and our vision is cleared and we see who the Lord has called us to be, the enemy no longer has any power. God has called us to be daughters and sons of a King. That means our value is that of royalty. We are princes and princesses. We are priceless in the Father's eyes. So, on those rough days where you want nothing more than to trash your image and your identity, just remember that it's because you're on the verge of something great that the enemy is trying to keep you from. On those days, declare value over yourself and every aspect of your life. Let the priceless worth of the Father wash over your heart and thoughts. Step in with God and take back the value of your life; your family's lives; your friends lives; till all that's left are princes and princesses fighting to take back the kingdom.
