is about our struggle to live on purpose. Everybody wants to get it right. Every day we drive ourselves toward the finish line of perfection desperately hoping to find meaning and fulfillment in life. But we fall short.
Here's how the Apostle Paul said it, "The longings to do what is right are within me, but willpower is not enough to accomplish it. My lofty desires to do what is good are dashed when I do the things I want to avoid. So if my behavior contradicts my desires to do good, I must conclude that it's not my true identity doing it, but the unwelcome intruder of sin hindering me from being who I really am."
Romans 8:18-20 Passion Translation
The big challenge is programmed- powerlessness. We travel in endless circles trying to get what we want. We have an awakening when we recognize that we need help from God.The hope is that God will magically take away our suffering and replace it with a life of bliss. But the problem is that the human will is programmed to resist God.
We will NEVER live the purpose-driven life without a vibrant relationship with our creator.
Our nature must be changed. We need our will to be transformed giving us a whole new set of "want tos." We may have the ability to change our behavior but we don't have the power to change our nature. God is the only one who can transform our nature changing us from the inside out. The moment we surrender and open our heart to receive the exchange takes place between us and God. We submit. He leads. He fills. We follow. The Spirit of God releases truth into our souls which renews our mind and empowers us to choose the path of purpose.
Jesus made a way for us to fulfill our purpose in life. His journey to the cross gives us the strength to die to will of our flesh that demands to be in control. His resurrection from the grave empowers us to live on purpose. We are responsible to yield to the work that the Lord wants to do in our lives. We cannot expect God to change us without our cooperation. The more we receive from God the more we become like him.
Purpose is being who we were born to be. Everybody has a God-given purpose. Our purpose is our unique reflection of God's character. Our true identity shines when we invite His supernatural work to take place inside us and through us. The merging of His PERFECT nature with our UNPERFECT nature gives birth to a life of destiny.
THE UNPERFECT MARRIAGE story is how God took two people from very broken back grounds and redeemed our struggles to create a beautiful picture of redemption. We recognized that we were seriously screwed up. We didn't need a little bit of grace. We had to have our souls baptized in it over and over. God transformed our struggles with our participation. It didn't just happen. We had to work to unlearn and to invest ourselves in the growth process. He gave us redemption and empowered us to turn our mess of a marriage into a vehicle of service for others.
The most powerful force in the universe is love. Father-God kept loving us over and over. His love was and is the difference maker. His unconditional acceptance of our ugliness gave us the ability to love one another even in our unperfectness.
